MHSSend Affirmative Computer Systems MHS: support@affirm (614)-431-0122 cserve/internet: support@affirm.mhs.compuserve.com Copyright (C) 1991,1993 Version 1.5 Introduction MHSSend is a simple utility designed to notify users of MHS applications of new mail as it arrives to the MHS gateway. MHSSend can also be used to notify users as they log into the system of how much unread mail is waiting. Documentation Audience This manual is directed to the network administrator or person assigned to be the MHS administrator of the network. Knowledge of Novell and MHS is assumed throughout this documentation and supervisory rights are required for installation. If you do not feel you are qualified to understand and install MHSSend please pass it on to your associate who is. Installation Installation of MHSSend is very simple. 1.Create a new MHS gateway called MHSSend. Follow the instructions detailed in the MHS documentation for creating a gateway. If the name of the user who runs MHS is not "MHS" then place the name of that user in the gateway commands. 2.Copy the MHSSEND.EXE main program to the gateway directory as INPOST.EXE. When defining a new gateway in the previous step, MHS updates the MHS directory structure and includes a directory for the gateway. If the gateway name is MHSSEND then execute the DOS command: COPY MHSSEND.EXE \MHS\MAIL\GATES\MHSSEND\PUBLIC\INPOST.EXE 3.Copy MHSSEND.EXE to a directory in your path. A good location would be \MHS\EXE. 4.Run SYSCON and add the line #MHSSEND to the system login script. This will notify users logging into the network of new mail. Make certain that the path to MHSSEND.EXE is defined prior to this line. Operation Once installed, MHSSend will be run each time MHS cycles. If any new mail is found in any of the user, application directories, a message will be sent to the user notifying him/her of new mail. MHSSend utilizes Novell's built-in broadcast messaging system to accomplish this. No additional drivers or memory is required on the users' workstations. When new mail is detected, MHSSend renames the new messages in such a manner as to keep MHSSend from continuously notifying the person each time it cycles, unless, of course, additional new mail arrives. Including and Excluding Users By default, all users defined in MHS are eligible for notification. If you desire to limit this, two Novell groups are checked prior to sending the message. If a user is found in the group MHSEXCLUDE then he/she will not be notified. If the group MHSINCLUDE is defined, only the members of this group will receive new mail messages. Creating MHSINCLUDE without any users effectively disables MHSSend since no users will ever be notified. Registration MHSSend is not free. It is being distributed using the ShareWare concept that allows you to evaluate the product before purchase. In it's unregistered form, MHSSend will only monitor five MHS mailboxes and notify those people of new mail. The first five mailboxes are those monitored. Also, user notification at login time is disabled. To register MHSSend, complete the form below, and send it in with a check for $35.00 (U.S.) and you will receive a passcode that will enable all MHSSend features. To install the passcode, simple create a text file called MHSSEND.REG in your \MHS\EXE directory or any directory on your path with only one line of information, the passcode. Each time MHSSend executes, it will read this file to determine if it is registered or not.
